Cecelia M. “Cees” Eastberg died peacefully in the early morning hours on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Nye Pointe nursing home. She was born on October 8, 1937, in Fremont where she lived most of her 86 years.
On the 8th day of August in 1982, she married the ‘love of her life’, Ronald H. Eastberg in the Congregational Church in Uehling, Nebraska creating a blended family with five adult children -Denise, Jeffrey, and JoLynn Hurley; and Tab and Troy Eastberg.
Her primary work experiences were in wiring and assembly at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies; and as a beautician at Isabella’s Salon and later in her own home as ‘Salon Cecelia’. She was employed by JC Penney and later earned her Real Estate Liscense and worked for Target Realty.
Cees was an avid bowler participating in several local leagues and was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2004. She bowled in numerous State and National Tournaments for Women and also bowled with her husband in Men’s Nationals. The couple loved their yearly travels with bowling buddies to tourney sites vacationing along the way. Summertime would find Cees on the golf course where she participated in three golfing leagues. She loved to golf and recorded a ‘hole in one’ in 2006 at Valley View on No. 17.
She loved to travel and experienced Israel, Jordan, Germany, Sweden, France and several other European countries. Cees and Ron cruised the Bahamas, and Alaska and were quick to pack up the van for a visit to friends and relatives in Missouri, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Colorado, Nevada, California or wherever else the wind would take them. They were headed to Hawaii on September 11, 2001 until the planes were all grounded. They enjoyed a few days in Reno, Nevada, before continuing on.
Family time often involved board games, dice games, or cards and Cees knew all the rules of every game. She was often dubbed ‘the rule maker’. Easter always involved a money stuffed egg hunt for everyone and sometimes showcased “Easter Olympics” with relay type games on the front lawn.
Cees and Ron are members of First Lutheran Church where they attended church regularly and sang in church choir. They are former members of First Congregational UCC. In addition to bowling, golfing, and traveling; Cees enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, crocheting, and just being with people. She will be missed.
Cecelia is preceeded in death by her parents Louis and Helene (Schellestede) Vogel; two children JoLynn and Jeffrey Hurley; and siblings Martin and Kenneth Vogel, Eileen (William-deceased) McChesney.
