FPS to begin removal of Lenihan Skywalk

city-of-fremont-2

On Monday, March 25, Fremont Public Schools will begin removing the Lenihan Skywalk above Broad Street between 10th Street and 8th Street. During this project, drivers should choose an alternate route or proceed slowly and with caution through the construction zone to ensure the safety of the construction crew and other drivers.

Initially, Broad Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions. To allow for work above the road, lanes will be shifted as needed to create space for equipment. This will allow for north/south traffic to continue through the site, but it will likely impact the current on-street parking stalls on the west side of Broad Street.

Tentatively starting April 15, Broad Street will be fully closed between 8th and 10th for three days. This closure will allow for the removal of the remaining superstructure over the road.

Signs will be posted at Broad Street and 23rd Street and at Broad Street and Military Avenue to detour northbound and southbound trucks west to Business Park Drive. Truck traffic is asked to heed the detours as there is no safe route around the immediate vicinity of the work site for large vehicles.

The work will also close sidewalks in the area. Please find alternative routes and avoid walking through the construction zone.
