Fremont firefighters responded to a blaze Sunday morning at Erickson & Brooks, CPAs, located at 2195 N. Broad Street.

Terry Luthy II, a lieutenant on the A shift, said the call came in at about 8:42 a.m.

“We got a call about smoke coming from a building,” he said. “Upon arrival crews observed that there was heavy brown smoke coming from the vents. It wasn’t like a raging fire, so our crews had to go find it. Smoke had basically filled up the whole building so they couldn’t see. They were basically blind so it took a little time.”

Luthy said firefighters had the blaze under control in 35 to 40 minutes. Members of FFD stayed on the scene until about 1 p.m. The lieutenant said officials believe they know what caused the fire.

“It appears that possibly the refrigerator unit failed,” he said. “It started some paper materials on fire and it kind of spread from there.”

Luthy said there was significant fire and smoke damage, but officials don’t have a dollar estimate as of late Sunday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

The Fremont Rural Fire Department provided mutual aid and the Arlington Fire Department covered the FFD station Sunday morning.
