Carol Lavonne (Barnes) Nielsen

Carol Lavonne (Barnes) Nielsen, 76, of Fremont died Thursday, February 29, 2024. at Methodist Fremont Health.

 

Carol was born October 7, 1947 in Fremont to Waldo and Emma Lillian ‘Kinney’ Barnes, the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1965. On May 6, 1967 she married Leonard Nielsen at First Lutheran Church. Out of this union came two boys and two girls, Roger, Susan, Debra and Rodney.

 

Carol stayed home for many years raising her children. Her last job was at Oriental Trading company in Fremont where she worked for 15 years. Carol loved life and the Lord. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the women’s ministry and attended bible studies. She loved to sew and her favorite thing was quilting. She was a member of Prairie Peace makers for a while. She also made the top of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of the Music Advisory Board for My Bride Radio. When her son Roger was in Desert Storm she served on the board of the family support group.

 

Carol is survived by her wonderful husband of more than 56 years Leonard, son Roger of Nickerson and his four boys Bladye, Chase, Korrbin and Gavin. Daughter Susan (Monte) Kleich of Elk Point, South Dakota, and their children Taylor (Ashley), Devon, and Shelby (Harmony). Daughter Debra (Jeff) White of Lakewood, Colorad, and their children Jade, McKenzie and Austin. Son Rodney (Crystal) of Crescent City, California and their two sons Maddix and Issak. Survivors include 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren Landon, Paige, Melody and Xiomara; nieces and nephews, special friends Karen Ruwe, Betty Kunce and Brenda Grimes.

 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jerold, John, Helen, Phylliss, Lois, Dorothy Lou and Onie, in-laws Magnus and Alma Nielsen, brothers-in-law Gerald (Dorothy) Nielsen and Don Nielsen.

 

Carol was a born-again Christian and loved the Lord, her husband and family more than life itself. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Quilting Ladies of First Lutheran Church and My Bridge Radio in Lincoln.

 

There is no viewing but the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday March 7, 2024, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The Celebration of Carol’s Life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Fremont.
