JAMESTOWN, N.D. – For the final time as conference foes, Midland University made the trek to Jamestown, North Dakota to face the University of Jamestown this weekend. The Warriors and Jimmies took the court inside Harold Newman Arena for a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Saturday. It took both offenses a bit to get going as the Jimmies turned an 11-point halftime lead into a 72-55 win over the Warriors.

The opening quarter saw just six points in the first five minutes as Jamestown connected on a pair of three-pointers. Midland finally broke through with 4:46 on the clock as Sarah Shepard made one of two free throws. The Warriors’ first field came with just over a minute left in the first as Ellie Bovaird was successful after a combined 12 misses to start the game. Two free throws by Aryannah Harrison drew Midland back within ten points, 15-5, at the end of the first.

In the second, the Warriors’ icy shooting from the field continued as a half-dozen more shots came up empty. Asia Bryant‘s field goal with 4:15 left in the half ended the drought, and then Kennedy Darner connected from behind the arc for the Warriors’ first three. Thankfully, the Jimmies were suffering a similar fate as they only led 25-14 at that point. Before halftime intermission, Jamestown pushed its lead back to double figures, 27-16.

After the break in action, the Jimmies’ offense started to heat up. The Warriors matched their output as the teams traded baskets through the first three minutes. At the 7:07 mark, Jamestown went on a 10-0 run to make the score 42-23 and never looked back.

Trailing 52-30 to start the final quarter, Midland matched the home team’s offensive output once more. As the teams swapped made field goals, the Warriors were never able to dig out of their early hole. Playing their full complement of players, Midland outscored Jamestown in the fourth, 25-20, but the Jimmies came away with the 72-55 final score.

The Warriors’ shooting numbers climbed after the tough start to 31.7% (19-60), just shy of their season average of 37.2%.

Jamestown controlled the glass with a 52 to 37 rebounding margin and a 28 to 20 edge in point in the paint. Turnovers were in favor of Midland as it turned the ball over 17 times compared to 19 for Jamestown.

Individually, Gabby Beauperthuy led the Warriors with 10 points. Emma Shepard and Lexie Glosser both added 8 points while Ellie Bovaird finished with 6.

Midland (5-19, 2-16 GPAC) will look to end its current seven-game losing streak next week when it travels to take on the College of Saint Mary (1-22, 0-18 GPAC), the team of which its last win came against. Back in January, the Warriors routed the Flames at home by a score of 69-42. CSM is currently riding a 22-game losing streak. Tipoff inside the Lied Fitness Center is set for 6:00 p.m. in Omaha.
