COLUMBUS — An 18-year-old from Columbus has died as the result of injuries suffered in a car accident Sunday.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said that Blake Anderson died in a local hospital following an accident Sunday morning around 9:50.
Deputies said they were dispatched to the area south of 355th St. on 205th Ave. for a car crash with injuries.
The initial investigation showed that the GMC Sierra, driven by Anderson, had been heading north on 205 before the crash.
About a half mile south of 355th, the Sheriff’s Office said Anderson lost control of the vehicle causing the GMC to leave the road and go into the east ditch.
As the vehicle went into the ditch, it rolled on its side and hit a power pole.
PCSO said Creston Fire and Rescue removed Anderson from the vehicle, who was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident. Deputies said that airbags did not deploy and seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.
Responding to the crash along with PCSO were Creston Fire and Rescue, Columbus Rescue, and Nebraska Game and Parks – who assisted with traffic control.
This is an ongoing investigation.
