The Rev. Stan Schmit will lead an informational session at 7 tonight at the Humphrey St. Francis Gymnasium about the merging of HSF and Holy Family of Lindsay.
The Archdiocese of Omaha announced the decision to merge the two junior and senior high schools at the end of 2023-24 school year.
A Catholic school on the Humphrey campus is scheduled to open next year.
The Archdiocese, in a letter sent to families earlier this month, said the ongoing teacher shortage played a factor in the decision. Other reasons for the merger included two Catholic schools competing for the same resources and Holy Family possibly not being compliant with state requirements which could put the school in danger of losing accreditation.
Officials said the new school will be named later this winter. Name and mascot suggestions are currently being collected by principals of both schools.
The merger will not affect either community’s elementary school.
