Frank E. Oshel, 74, of Fremont passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.
Frank was born on July 9, 1949, to James and Jean (Dunning) Oshel in Grand Island. He was a 1968 graduate of Hooper High School in Hooper and attended college at Milford Diesel Mechanic school. Frank worked for various construction contractors following school. On July 28, 1972, Frank married Mary Kuntz at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. In 1976, Frank started working for the Department of Utilities in Fremont, retiring in 2012 after 35 years. In 1987, Frank and Mary restored an abandoned farm place, making it their home. Frank also owned Frank’s VW & Auto, specializing on Volkswagens over the years.
Frank spent a lot of time on the water and along the Elkhorn River which included fishing, airboating, and waterskiing at the State Lakes. One of his favorite activities was playing with his 9 grandchildren and making sure they had lots of opportunities for laughs and memories. He was a Fremont Airboat Club member since 1976. Frank also enjoyed playing his guitar around the campfire.
He was preceded by his father, James; daughter, Kasie; sister, Sheryl (Theron) Shelton; in-laws, Tony and Terri Kuntz; and niece, BobbiJo Wegner.
He is survived by wife, Mary; sons, Boone (Jerilyn) Oshel, Daniel (Emily) Oshel, and Cody (Jessica) Oshel; mother, Jean Wilson; brother, BobbyJo (Linda) Oshel; grandchildren, Shaeli, Aurora, Lillian, Keeley, Nyla, Flynn, Wyatt, Kullan, and Daisy; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont with a luncheon following at the Fremont Airboat Club. Memorial visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday with a rosary starting at 7 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Burial will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
