Robert “Pete” Petersen, 85, of Fremont died Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, under the care of his family, the staff at Arbor Care Center in Tekamah and St. Croix Hospice of Fremont.

Pete was born in Hooper on April 9, 1938, to Emanuel and Anna (Busch) Petersen. Pete married Matilda “Tillie” Martinez on Feb. 10, 1956. Tillie passed away in 2005. Pete lived most of his life in Fremont and worked his entire career for Nebraska Natural Gas and the Fremont Department of Utilities, retiring in 1998. Pete enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, going on fishing trips, and telling old hunting stories.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tillie; sister, Barbara Chaney.

He is survived by his three children: daughter Karinda (Chad) Schott of Mesa, Arizona; two sons, Mark (Mary) Petersen, and Jim (Joyce) Petersen all of Fremont; one brother Delmar (Leanna) Petersen of Riverside, California; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Sara, Shelly, Ryan, Tammy, Amanda, Derek, and Meredith; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Dugan Funeral Chapel, 751 N. Lincoln Ave. in Fremont.  In accordance with Pete’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. The family will have a private inurnment at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or St. Croix Hospice of Fremont.
