FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted York University in a men’s soccer match on home turf on Wednesday night. After a scoreless opening half, a surge of scoring by the Warriors led to a 4-0 win in front of their home fans.
Midland and York started the first half aggressively as they tied in shot attempts 5-5, with two shots on frame for both sides. The teams were physical in their defensive strategies, with a combined 14 fouls and 3 yellows.
After the intermission, the Warriors took advantage of an opportunity for a penalty kick after York fouled inside the box. Adnan Boulaghmal collected the ball and put it in the back of the net to put MU on the board 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
Matheus Nascimento collected the ball off the Panthers’ pass in the 80th, taking it to the back of the net to double the lead. Midland continued to add pressure as Thomas Moulderfound the back of the net three minutes later off an assist from Boulaghmal.
Shortly after, Patrick Long took the ball off a feed from Diego Saenz. He moved past the keeper and found the back of the net to score the game’s final goal. Midland earns the 4-0 shutout over York after an aggressive physical matchup.
Marco Moresco played the full 90 minutes in goal to earn the clean sheet and two saves.
“This was a great response after the weekend,” said head coach Josh Nakayama. “We played with energy and showed a desire to win. Great result tonight! It is amazing to see us play to our potential.”
“We need to keep this momentum going,” added Coach Nakayama. “We have a tough game this weekend, so our focus now shifts to Missouri Valley.”
Midland (2-2) will be back on the road as they head to take on Missouri Valley (0-3). The non-conference matchup will occur on Saturday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Marshall, Missouri.
