COSTA MESA, Calif. – Midland University had a quick turnaround on Saturday morning as they took on the University of Saint Katherine on a Saturday morning out in California. Early offense for the Firebirds led to a two-goal lead through 15 minutes as they cruised to a 3-1 win over the Warriors.

Saint Katherine came out with fire on the offense as they scored the first goal in the 6th minute. Shortly after, they scored another goal in the 14th minute to take an early 2-0 lead. They would hold that advantage up to the break as Midland had difficulty moving the ball on the attack. Through the first 45, the Firebirds doubled up the shots 10-5 with 5 on frame.

After the intermission, USK boosted its lead with a goal in the 67th minute to make it 3-0 over the Warriors. In the final seconds, Midland was able to get themselves on the board with a goal by Claudia Wilson. Assisted by Emma Andersen in the final minute, the game ended 3-1 in favor of Saint Katherine.

Kyla Pires made the start and played the full 90 minutes in goal, picking up five saves on the day.

Midland (2-2) will get a day of rest before returning to action on Monday, September 4. They’ll face Vanguard (2-0-1) back in Costa Mesa in the final game of their road trip. The matchup is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. on the turf at the VU Soccer Complex.
