OMAHA, JULY 12 – The American Cancer Society is proud to host its inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Nebraska
Golf Classic July 24 at The Club at Indian Creek, Omaha, NE. Funds raised will support lifesaving pediatric
cancer research as well as free programs and services for cancer patients and their families, not only in
Nebraska, but across the nation.
The American Cancer Society exists to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families, working to
ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
“The mission of the American Cancer Society is important to me because cancer will affect all of us in our
lifetimes,” says Josh Luedtke, Director of Admissions at Creighton Preparatory High School and 2023 Chair for
the Coaches vs. Cancer Nebraska Golf Classic. “Each of us can make an impact through our time, energy, and
donations. I am honored to chair the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Nebraska Golf Classic and raise funds to
support the ACS’ work, and I encourage others in the Omaha community to get involved.”
“Cancer has affected us all in some way, shape, or form and has especially affected my family this year. It has
hit close to home with the passing of my cousin and former Husker basketball player Steve Erwin in
February,” says Tyler Erwin, Head Basketball Coach at Midland University and Co-Chair. “Also, my close friend
and coaching mentor Rich McGill is currently battling colon cancer. He is in a battle and seeing him fight each
day makes me want to do more. I hope to use my platform to raise awareness and continue the fight against
this disease.,”
The Coaches vs. Cancer Nebraska Golf Classic aims to please both avid golfers and those who would rather
stay off the fairways, with an amenity-rich experience at The Club at Indian Creek. The event kicks off July 24
with an opportunity to hit the greens during the Golf Classic with Nebraska celebrity coaches, Chris
Crutchfield, Coach Tim Cannon, and an evening reception featuring, Coach Fred Hoiberg, ESPN Announcer
Kevin Lehman, and others.
The Golf Classic itself will be held Monday, July 24, with a shotgun start at 11:30am and will be followed by a
cocktail reception, dinner, and awards ceremony.
“We are very excited to introduce this event into Omaha,” says Julie Glover, Executive Director of the
American Cancer Society in Nebraska, “not only to bring Omaha’s golf community together around a cause
that impact us all, but to help us make a greater impact in support of our vision to end cancer as we know it,
for everyone.”
