A two-time captain is returning to the Nebraska baseball team for a sixth season.

Left-handed pitcher Kyle Perry announced Saturday he’ll be back for one more go-around with the Huskers. The Millard South graduate has been a do-everything NU member on the field and long served as a vocal leader among his peers.
“I’ve been here five years,” Perry said in a short video release. “So what’s one more?”
Perry’s move comes as something of a surprise for Nebraska, which is likely in the midst of retooling the majority of its pitching staff for next season. He’s the only remaining member of the 2020 team that received an extra year because of the pandemic.

The southpaw has suffered two major arm injuries in college, the second of which allows him to run it back with Nebraska once more. He appeared in five games in 2022 before missing the rest of the season – by NCAA rule, he’s eligible for a medical hardship waiver because the injury occurred during the first half of the season and he competed in less than 30% of the campaign.

Perry, who turns 24 next March, has appeared in 43 career games (18 starts) as a Husker. He holds a 5.40 earned-run average in 93 1/3 innings. In the spring he mostly served as a high-leverage relief arm and was one of NU’s most trusted bullpen calls late in the year. He finished the campaign with a 5.46 ERA and three saves.
