Richard H. Larsen, 76, of Fremont died Monday, April 17, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Richard Harry Larsen was born in O’Neill to Harry R. and Arlene E. (Hiatt) Larsen on Nov. 28, 1946. Rich attended Saint Mary’s High School in O’Neill and served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1973 aboard the U.S.S. Cleveland. He was a production manager at Olsen Bros. Irrigation until it closed. He then started his own construction company building and remodeling homes. The family relocated to Fremont in 1987 where he worked as plant manager at Stor-Mor Grain Bins until it closed and completed his career at Valmont in lean process management.
Rich married Pamela Hammerlun in O’Neill on July 6, 1968. The couple had two children, Chris and Emily. He learned and enjoyed playing guitar in high school, playing gigs in local bands in his younger days. He continued playing for fun throughout his life, excited to show his skills and pass them on.
Rich is survived by his wife Pam, children Chris (Janet) Larsen, Emily (Seth) McDermott, and grandchildren Jocelyn, Mackenzie, Jenna, Jackson, and Benjamin, sisters Susan (Mo) Larsen, Patricia (Jim) Kobelt, and brother Robert Larsen. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cheryl Morris.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Fremont First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the O’Neill Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be designated to donor’s choice or the family to give to the University of Nebraska Foundation College of Nursing Scholarship Fund “in honor of all the wonderful nurses who helped him in his last days.”
