Warriors’ Bats Kept Quiet Against Jamestown; Drop Home Doubleheader

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted a Great Athletic Plains Conference (GPAC) doubleheader against the University of Jamestown. The Warriors took tough losses in both games, falling to the Jimmies 4-16 in game one and 4-13 in game two.

GAME ONE: Jamestown 16, Midland 4

The Jimmies broke the scoreless innings in the top of the 2nd to put the game’s first run on the board, taking the 1-0 off two hits.

The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the 2nd as Connor Petersen was walked to being the inning. A single by Hadyn Crawford put two Warriors on base and then Alec Villanueva brought Petersen home with a double. With a ground out, Crawford found his way home to put the Warriors up 2-1.

The Jimmies regained their lead with a single and double, scoring two runs off three hits in the 3rd, and then added to their lead in the 4th with a three-run home run, followed by a grand slam, scoring eight runs off five hits before the inning came to a close.

The Warriors got a run back off a home run from Hadyn Crawford in the bottom of the fourth.

The next inning saw the lead chip away a little more a single by Yealex Lopez and a hit-by-pitch of Nathaniel Reyes set the table to for a sacrifice fly by Petersen, scoring Lopez to make it 11-4.

That proved to be the final run for the home team in the seven-inning game as the Jimmies allowed just one hit in the final two at-bats.

Meanwhile, the Jamestown offense stayed heated as they put up five more runs off five hits in the seventh inning to take game one by a 16-4 final score.

Statistical Standouts

GAME TWO: Midland 4, Jamestown 14

The Jimmies’ offense carried the heat from game one into game two as they opened up the first inning with a three-run home run to take the early lead.

Jacob Liquori singled through the left side to get on first with one out and then Hadyn Crawford doubled out to right field, driving in the runner. He tried to extend it to a triple but found himself in a pickle, and was tagged for the second out.

The Jimmies’ offense flared up in the 2nd, scoring seven runs off four hits, including a grand slam home run, boosting their lead to 10-1 after two innings.

Yealex Lopez opened the bottom of the 3rd with a solo home run. Back-to-back singles by Jacob Liquori and Hadyn Crawford put two on base for Connor Petersen. He singled and advanced to second on an error by the Jimmies to bring Liquori home. Crawford found his way home off a sacrifice fly from Alec Villanueva. The lead was cut down 10-4 after three complete innings.

As the game progressed through the latter half of the game, the Jimmies continued to boost their lead by consistently getting runners on base and then bringing them in to score. They put up one run in the 5th, 6th, and 9th innings, holding the Warriors scoreless along the way for the 13-4 victory.

Statistical Standouts

Midland (14-13, 6-4 GPAC) will look to rebound with another doubleheader at Moller Field against Dakota Wesleyan (3-14, 0-6 GPAC) on Sunday. The Tigers will serve as the home team, as the games were initially scheduled to be at their ballpark but were moved to Fremont due to weather. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on April 2.
