YANKTON, S.D. – With a snowstorm moving through the area, the Mount Marty Open was limited to only the multi-events this weekend up in South Dakota. For Midland University that meant only three competitors saw action inside the Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse.
In the women’s pentathlon, Madyson Ray and Shyanne Pipkin were among the field of seven athletes. Ray finished 3rd with a score of 2624, while Pipkin scored 1976 for 7th place. Ray tied for the second-best height in the high jump, clearing 1.46m (577 pts). She was also 2nd in the long jump, with a distance of 4.68m (474 pts). Pipkin’s top events, in comparison to the field, were the high jump (1.43m, 544 pts) and the shot put (7.93m, 395 pts).
In the men’s heptathlon, Adrien Patigny was only able to compete in four of the seven events before the team headed back to Fremont. Through the high jump, which was the scheduled break of the event, he was in 2nd place with a score of 2559. He had the top score in the 60m (7.15, 830 pts) and was 2nd in the long jump (6.40m, 675 pts).
Midland will hope for better travel conditions next week when they head north again. They’ll travel to Mitchell, S.D. for DWU Alumni Meet hosted by Dakota Wesleyan. The one-day meet is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start inside the Avera Sports and Wellness Complex.
