“Dick” Richard R. Dunaway went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022. He was born to Ralph and Faye (Lacey) Dunaway on June 30, 1937, in Fremont.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the Bon Homme Richard Aircraft Carrier. He served during the Korean war and was able to see many parts of the world. He was previously married and had two sons, Warren (Denise) Dunaway and Mitchell Dunaway. He married Judy Pavey on Aug. 20, 1967, in Omaha. They have three children, Ralph (Teresa) Dunaway of Cozad Terri (Bruce) Wilkerson of Scribner and Sandra (Chris) Wardman of North Bend. He also has eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He worked at Lodi Auto and Truck Sales in Lodi, California. He also worked for Roberts Dairy and owned the “Circle Lady” hog farm in Galt, California. Dick had many rental properties in Fremont and surrounding areas. He retired from Birchwood Manor in North Bend transporting residents. Dick and Judy have lived in North Bend since 1992.

Dick was a member of Fremont Evangelical Free Church in Fremont and a member of the VFW. His favorite Bible Verse was John 3:16.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Danny Dunaway; sisters, Diane Sandoval and Dorothy “Dode” Barcus; and parents-in-law, Grace and Al Umberger.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the Fremont Evangelical Free Church. Visitation with family receiving friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial with military honors will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.
