Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue Department Chief Rob Benke died unexpectedly on Monday at Methodist Fremont Health.
Benke had served of the department for more than 40 years.
Fremont Fire Department Chief Todd Bernt said Tuesday morning that Benke was a true professional.
“He was a great person to work with,” the chief said. “We could go to each other if either one of us had questions about anything. We had a good working relationship.”
Bernt said FFD and Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue work together quite often.
“We work with them regularly,” he said. “When I first heard the news, my stomach just dropped. He was a great guy and all-around person. He was a great chief and he’s going to be missed.”
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Bluffs Auditorium. Rev. Mark Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Cedar Bluffs.
