
The 1st State Bank Seniors baseball team did it again. For the third year in a row, they won the Area 6 District championship. It wasn’t easy. They had to take down Judd Brothers/Lincoln NE twice on Tuesday, in South Sioux City.
The Seniors claimed the outright championship for the third year in a row, with wins of 10-1 , and 9-1.
In game One, Post 20 jumped on Judd Brothers with 5 runs in the top of the 1st, 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd. Carter Sintek was 2 for 3 with a double, 2 rbi’s, 2 walks and 2 stolen bases, 1 run scored. Cal Janke was 2 for 5, with 2 runs scored and a double. Jackson Cyza was 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Cooper Weitzel was 2 for 5 with 2 rbi’s. Ryan Winter pitched the complete game, giving up just 5 hits, 1 run and 3 walks, for the win.
With pitching depleted, Jariel Ortiz took the mound for Fremont in the second game, and proceeded to make his way thru 5 innings, giving up just 4 hits, with one run, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Carter Sintek finished the sixth. The Fremont bats stayed alive as Julius Cortes tripled in the 3rd inning. Cal Janke brought him home with a home run and Fremont led 2-0 after 3. Cooper Weitzel drove in Dom Escovedo in the 4th. Judd Brothers threatened in the 5th inning with one run, but the Fremont seniors turned a nifty double play to end the threat. Quinn Gossett tripled in the bottom of the 5th, and reached home on a throwing error. Fremont ended up scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th, and 2 more in the bottom of the 6th, to end the game early at 9-1. 1st State bank had 10 hits in the game. Carter Sintek was 3 for 4, with a double, and a run scored and an rbi.
Cal Janke was 2 for 3 with a home run, 3 runs scored, and 2 rbi’s. Catcher Quinn Gossett was 1 for 3 with a triple, a run scored, and 3 rbi’s.
Fremont, 22-8, advances to the American Legion Seniors State tournament, this Saturday July 23rd thru the 27th, at Bellevue East. The unofficial bracket has them playing Bellevue East at 7pm, Saturday July 23rd. Grant Hansen will have the live play by play on Mix 105.5, online at thebestmix1055.com
The First State Bank Juniors were playing in Columbus Tuesday at Pawnee Park, trying to come back in the losers bracket to qualify for state. The Juniors had to beat Norfolk twice to advance to the state tournament in Kearney. Game one, they blasted Norfolk 15 to 1, to force the Championship game. Norfolk held on to win 4-3 yesterday and knock the Juniors out. The Fremont First State Bank Juniors finished the season 24-8.
