Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert announced Thursday morning that she married Dr. J. Kevin O’Rourke in a private ceremony Wednesday.
A statement from the mayor’s office said the two met 45 years ago in St. Louis when he was in medical school at St. Louis University and Stothert was a critical care nurse at St. Louis University Hospital.
O’Rourke is an anesthesiologist and completed his training at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
Stothert said the two remained friends through the years. The mayor experienced tragedy in March of 2021 when her husband Dr. Joe Stothert died. She said O’Rourke has been a great source of strength for her, especially during the last year.
