Earlier this month, the Dodge County Board of Supervisors proclaimed “Week of the Young Child” for April 2-8. Genna Faulkner, the Early Childhood Community Coordinator of the Fremont Family Coalition, said the proclamation was significant.
“It was incredibly important,” she said. “It was such a great step forward in recognizing how important early childhood education and early childhood care are. We have some of the greatest childcare providers in our community and we want to recognize them and the job that they do. It was awesome for the supervisors to make that (proclamation) and bring that to our community’s attention.”
A special event is set for April 2 to kick off the week. The Party In The Park is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rotary Park, Fifth and K streets.
“We’re going to have lots of amazing things going on,” Faulkner said. “The Omaha Children’s Museum is coming out and they are going to put on their ‘Amazing Bubble Show” twice at 10 a.m. and noon so we’re hoping a lot of people can come out for it.”
The bubble show is just one of many fun things connected to the day, Faulkner said.
“We’re having some food trucks for that day and we’ll have some door prizes,” she said. “We’ll offer some food vouchers for those trucks, but what we’re really focusing on that day is seeing the engagement between parents and their children.”
There will be a painting area by the Fremont Area Art Association as well as free face painting. There will also be community resources available for parents while local childcare providers will be hosting games.
Faulkner said it is a great way to start the “Week of the Young Child.”
“It is an opportunity for families to come out and kick off that special week and kick off the summer,” she said.
