SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The 2021 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer All-Conference teams were announced on Monday by the conference office. Voted on by the conference’s coaches, first team, second team, and honorable mention honors were awarded.
Midland University is represented by Emily Ambrose, Kisa Omerovic, Mackenzie Smith, Mikayla Chase, and Chloe Dietz. Their efforts were integral to the team’s success this season as the Warriors finished fourth in the GPAC with an 8-4 record.
Ambrose, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, was named to the All-GPAC First Team. She helped guide the Warriors’ defense to a conference-leading eight shutouts and a conference-low eight goals allowed. “Emily was a dominant force for us all year on the defensive side of the ball.” said Warriors’ head coach Cody Bartlow.
Omerovic, a senior from Lincoln, Nebraska, was also named to the All-GPAC First Team. She was the Warriors leading goal scorer (6) and led the team in shots on goal (19). “Kisa was instrumental in our attack and leading us in scoring,” mentioned Coach Bartlow.
Smith, Chase, and Dietz round up the Warriors’ GPAC honorees as they were named to the honorable mention list. “Mikayla and Mackenzie were important pieces in our defensive unit and both could easily have been rated higher and I believe will be in the future. Chloe is a rock star and so deserving of recognition. I truly believe she is a first team player, but in votes like this it’s stats that talk and as the selfless midfielder she does the dirty work that isn’t seen by the outside world, but is paramount to our success,” stated Coach Bartlow.
“We are so proud of the girls for being named all-conference. The quality of the individuals and talent on our team have been seen and recognized by the coaches within the conference,” said Coach Bartlow. “Congratulations to the girls, they represent our program and Midland with class!”
The Warriors look to turn this success and praise into even better results on the pitch next season.
