The Fremont High softball team began the season hosting Lincoln Northeast in a doubleheader at Chaplain’s Field, Thursday night. Fremont swept the Rockets, 5-0 and 10-2, in five innings. Junior Ella Cooper had a big night. She pitched both games, earning the wins and struck out a combined 22 batters in the double-dip. In game one, Cooper pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 12.
In game two, Cooper gave up four hits and struck out ten.
Offensively, the Tigers recorded 21 hits in the two games. Cooper went 2-for 3 in game one and went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in game two.
Mackenzie Kinning also hit a two-run homerun for the Tigers, in game two.
Lincoln Northeast is 0-2 and plays a doubleheader at Norfolk, Tuesday. Fremont is 2-0 and plays Omaha South at 6pm, tonight, in the Omaha Bryan Invite.
