Junior Golf Continues at FGC

Omaha’s Kaitlyn Hanna took the lead in the 21st Nebraska Girls’ Amateur Championship and Omaha’s Porter Topp and Jake Boor lead in the 54th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship, after the first round at Fremont Golf Club on Monday.
Hanna is in search of her second title and leads by one stroke after a round of even-par 71. The Omaha Westside senior won the 2019 Nebraska Girls’ Amateur Championship, but missed last year’s championship. She had four-straight top 10s in this championship prior to that.  Fremonter Ansley Giesselmann is tied for 17th after an 89.
On the boys’ side, Topp was the first player in the clubhouse in red numbers with a round of 70 (-1). He started on the back nine and made the turn in 36 (E). He kicked off the front nine with birdies on Nos. 1 and 3 to get under par. Topp, who will be a junior at Omaha Westside, made double-bogey on No. 6, but followed with a birdie on No. 8, after hitting the flagstick with his chip and tapping in.  Fremonters Tyler Shaw and Carsen Vecera are tied for 17th after 75’s.
The boys’ field will be cut to the low 40 scores and ties after Tuesday’s round, with the final round scheduled for Wednesday. The girls’ final round will take place Tuesday afternoon, with the leaders set to tee off at 3 p.m.
