Trailing, 7-0, in the top of the third inning, the First State Bank American Legion seniors mounted a big comeback and recorded a 10-9 win over Carpetland Lincoln East, Tuesday night at Den Hartog Field in the bridge game of the Class A National Division Playoffs. Sparking the come-from-behind effort was a six-run fifth inning. After relinquishing an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the fifth, First State would score the eventual game winning runs in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Camden McKenzie and a go-ahead rbi single by Sam Gifford. Gifford’s heroics were not done, though, as he would replace Ryan Winter, on the mound, in the bottom of the sixth and record a two inning save, to secure the victory. Winter picked up the win, in relief, before Gifford saved the victorious effort. Dawson Glause went 2-for-4; Jax Sorensen was 2-for-3 with two rbi’s, and McKenzie went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Carpetland Lincoln East ends the year 33-13. First State, now 25-12, will play Arbor Bank Omaha Skutt for the National Division Playoff title, today at 4pm. Arbor Bank eliminated North Platte, yesterday, 19-8 in six innings. Arbor Bank would have to win the 4pm game to force an if-necessary game at 7pm. Today’s championship action will be heard on Mix 105.5, FM.
