The First State Bank American Legion Senior baseball team staved off elimination, Monday afternoon, with a 3-0 victory over Columbus Cornerstone Insurance, at the A-6 Area Tournament. Landon Mueller pitched a complete game, scattering six hits in the win at Veterans Memorial Field, in Norfolk. Mueller stuck out five with Jax Sorensen went 2-for-3 with a single, triple, and two rbi’s. With the win, First State advances to the Tournament final and will take on Gretna, today at 4pm. Gretna downed Norfolk, last night, 10-3. With the Gretna win, both Gretna Post #216 and First State Bank have qualified for the State Divisional Playoffs in either Lincoln, or at Omaha Westside, beginning Saturday. Today’s game is a rematch of the winner’s bracket semifinal, Sunday, which Gretna won, 7-6. First State needs to beat Gretna twice, today, to win the Tournament title. Today’s action, beginning, at 4pm, will be broadcast on Mix 105.5, FM.
At the A-6 Area Juniors tournament, in Fremont, First State bank suffered it’s first tournament loss, falling to Gretna #2, 14-1. With the loss, First State will play in the Tournament championship, tonight at 7:30, versus the winner of the Gretna #2/Gretna #1 matchup.
