Ex-county attorney’s probation extended

Former Dodge County Attorney Oliver Glass had his probation extended Monday in Dodge County Court.

Glass pleaded no contest to violating his previous probation, which came from a DUI charge in March of 2020. In August, he entered a guilty plea to that charge and was sentenced to 15 months probation.

On Jan. 28, Glass faced another DUI charge after attempting to pick up his children from his soon-to-be ex-wife. Fremont police made contact with Glass, who was still in his car at his house. After speaking with officers, police gave him a preliminary breath test, which registered at .20 — 2 ½ times the legal limit.

Prosecutor Brenda Beadle said after a delay of more than 30 minutes, officers took Glass to the Fremont Police Department, but they didn’t have him take a DataMaster test that is needed to confirm the actual blood alcohol content.

Beadle told visiting Sarpy County Judge Robert Wester that deficiencies in the investigation would’ve made it difficult to convict Glass of second-offense DUI. As part of a plea deal, it was agreed to reduce Glass’ second DUI charge to a first-offense DUI.

Wester sentenced Glass to 18 months of probation and 30 days in the county jail. He was to appear Monday night and leave Tuesday morning. The remaining 28 days must be served starting July 9. He was given credit for five days previously served.
