MU, FNBO to honor local heroes

Midland University and FNBO are teaming up to honor a pair of local heroes.

Pat and Jim Harris will be honored as part of the FNBO Salute a Hero Program for their service in the Armed Forces. The two will be recognized during Midland’s baseball game against Dordt that is scheduled for 4 Saturday afternoon.

The Harrises are both Fremont natives. They served in the Armed Forces after high school — Pat in the U.S. Army for three years while Jim was with the U.S. Navy. Both were honorably discharged after their service time.

Brenda Wilberding, business development manager at Midland, said the university is proud to partner with FNBO to honor the Harrises.

“Jim and Pat have been outstanding servants to their country and the Fremont community,” she said. “They are true heroes for the work they do.”

Hayley Fischer, branch manager at FNBO, said the bank supports MU’s recognition of local heroes for their commitment to our community and country.

The Harrises recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. Both are members of the Fremont Area Veteran’s Coalition, where they help build wheelchair ramps for veterans, present shadow boxes for the veterans in care centers and provide scholarship support for college students.

Pat Harris recently retired after serving as the head cook at Johnson Crossing Academic Center.
