SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University women’s soccer team entered postseason play in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament Saturday afternoon. The quarterfinals match featured seventh-seeded Warriors who upset the second-seed Morningside College 1-0.
The first half of play was a lot of back and forth play as the Warriors were able to control the ball on their offensive half majority of the half. Midland had 10 shots compared to the Mustangs four.
The Warriors came out of halftime strong aggressively as Brittany Llanes drove into the box as she was then fouled. Llanes was rewarded with a penalty kick as then was able to convert to a goal putting the Warriors up 1-0.
Midland was able to hold the Mustangs off the scoreboard for the rest of the game as Morningside outshot the Warriors 7-4 and advanced onto the GPAC semi-final game.
Rachel Thigpen went the full distance in net for the Warriors. She tallied four saves and collected the shut-out.
Midland (7-5-3) will travel to third-seeded Concordia (10-6-1) on Tuesday, April 6 with game time at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated Dakota Wesleyan Saturday night 2-1 in their quarterfinal match. Concordia and Midland tied 2-2 in their regular-season meeting back on November 4, 2020, in Fremont, Nebraska.
