Big Island Road experiences additional flooding

Dodge County Emergency Manager Thomas Smith said there was some additional flooding Tuesday night along Big Island Road and The Big Island area.
Floodwaters entered Summer Haven Lake and then overflowed there and came out into a private lake and eventually flowed onto South Ridge Road. At about 2:15 this morning, floodwaters crossed over South Ridge Road between the Lake Leba entrance and Summer Haven entrance.
“The road is closed south of the state park entrance,” Smith said. “Anyone traveling on South Ridge Road needs to be aware that there is water on the roadway.”
Smith said an ice jam west of Fremont contributed to the flooding.
“That is causing a lot of flooding on Big Island through Summer Haven,” he said. “As of right now, on County Road 19 there is no flood water.”

Water is over the road due to ice jam related flooding on Ridge Road on March 3, 2021. River adjacent areas are experiencing roadway flooding due to the ice jam on the Platte; however, this typical river flooding is not expected to become anything like 2019’s devastating flood that affected most of South Fremont.
