YANKTON, S.D. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) will host the 2020 Indoor Track and Field Championships this week in Yankton, South Dakota. The site for this year’s championships in the newly constructed Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse on the campus of Mount Marty University. The venue, which was completed last fall, features an eight-lane track along with 74,000 square feet of event space for field events.
Midland University will send seven athletes, three men and four women, to the four-day meet set to begin on Wednesday, March 3. To combat large groups, the NAIA expanded the championship dates to four days with women’s events primarily taking place on Wednesday and Friday, and men’s events on Thursday and Saturday. The event is not open to the public.
The Midland women will be represented by a trio of distance runners and one pole vaulter. Madilynn Edwards, Myia Johnson, and Vivian Sanchez will all be competing in the women’s mile. Sanchez will also be running the 800m race. In the field, Kylee Edmonds will be one of 16 athletes in the women’s pole vault.
On the men’s side, Dylan Kucera will be looking to defend his indoor men’s shot put title from a year ago. He has also qualified for the men’s weight throw. Joining him in the field is Shandon Reitzell who will be competing in the high jump. Rounding out the men’s team is Jose Gonzalez who will be running the men’s 1000m race.
