SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Continuing with the long road trip, Midland University took on Southwestern Assemblies of God University in a pair of games on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas. The Warriors were defeated 7-1 in the first game but bounced back to win 3-1 in the second matchup.
Game One: SAGU 7, Midland 1 (7 innings)
The Warriors fell behind early as SAGU took a big lead in the third inning. After scoring two runs in the second inning, two triples in the third inning powered SAGU to a 5-0 lead.
Midland would get on the board in the fifth inning after Kyle Weber doubled to get on base and then was brought home shortly thereafter by a Trey Nichols’ double to left field. The hits were two of a total of just four for the Warriors as their offense was held in check for a majority of the game.
SAGU tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to push their advantage to six and win the game.

Game Two: Midland 3, SAGU 1 (7 innings)
Defense was the story of the game as the Warriors kept the SAGU offense in check. Warriors’ lefty Steven Boyd was clinical on the mound as he went all seven innings giving up only one run while allowing seven hits. He recording three strikeouts on the day as well.
Behind Boyd, the infield came together to execute three double plays and catcher Matt Abdelnour caught two runners attempting to steal second.
Offensively, the bats heated up for Midland in the second inning. After reaching base on a walk, Lucas Hamzeh scored the game’s first run on a Chase Reynolds single to left field.
Abdelnour doubled to left field in the bottom of the third inning and then Maddux Miyasato reached base on a walk. Hamzeh brought both runners home with a single to center field, extending the Warrior lead to 3-0.
In the seventh inning, SAGU attempted a comeback attempt, scoring on a groundball error to bring the score to 3-1. During the ensuing at-bat, Abdelnour sealed the Warriors victory on a great throw that caught SAGU baserunner attempting to steal third base.
