Husker Update: Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling – Feb 22

LINCOLN – Volleyball, basketball and wrestling all took home wins this weekend, while soccer was played to a draw.

Volleyball

The fourth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to hand No. 5 Minnesota its first loss of the season in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 sweep on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The Huskers (7-1) rebounded from Friday’s 3-1 loss by hitting .300 on Sunday and holding Minnesota to a .153 hitting percentage. Nebraska (7-1) posted its first win over an AVCA top-five ranked team since the 2018 NCAA Semifinal win over No. 3 Illinois. It was the first sweep by the Huskers over a top-five team since Sept. 29, 2017 against No. 3 Minnesota.
The Huskers hit the road to face No. 1 Wisconsin next Friday and Saturday.

Women’s Basketball

Isabelle Bourne tied her career high with 22 points and produced her third consecutive double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds to lead five Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska rolled to an 87-72 women’s basketball win over visiting Penn State on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
With the victory, Nebraska improved to 11-9 overall and 9-8 in the Big Ten, while Penn State slipped to 8-11 and 5-10 in the conference. Bourne who was coming off 21 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in a mid-week win at No. 24 Northwestern, hit 7-of-13 shots from the field while knocking down 7-of-10 free throws. She added two assists and two blocked shots while helping the Huskers secure another win despite the absence of starting forward Bella Cravens, who sat out for the second straight game with a lower leg injury.
Nebraska returns to Big Ten road action on Wednesday when the Huskers travel to Minnesota. Tip-off with the Golden Gophers at Williams Arena is set for 6 p.m.

Wrestling

Winning seven individual matches on the day, the Nebraska wrestling team closed the 2021 regular season with a 25-9 win over Illinois on Sunday in Champaign, Ill. The Huskers finish the conference-only slate 7-1, going undefeated in the last six duals of the regular season.
The Huskers earned bonus points in three matches, picking up major decisions at 174 and 184 pounds and a technical fall in the 149-pound bout.
A post-season push comes next for the Huskers, who have just under two weeks before they hit the mat in State College, Pa. for the 2021 Big Ten Championships on March 6-7.

Soccer

The Nebraska women’s soccer team opened the 2020-21 season with a 0-0 tie against Minnesota on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. The all-time series between the teams remains tied at 7-7-2.
Six Huskers, including Makinzie ShortDakota ChanKathleen AitchisonAshley ZugayOlivia Brown and Grace Brown, played the full 110 minutes while seventeen total players saw action for Nebraska.
The Huskers continue their road slate with a trip to East Lansing Thursday, Feb. 25 to take on Michigan State at noon (CT).
The Nebraska women’s tennis team found a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin on Sunday. This victory takes the team’s record to 3-1 following a 4-3 victory over Minnesota on Friday afternoon. After securing the doubles point, Nebraska managed three singles wins over the Wisconsin Badgers for a final score of 4-3.
The Huskers are back at home on February 26th to host Purdue at 1:00 pm (CT) and Indiana February 28th at 10:30 am (CT.)
