Michael L. Bennett, 76, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph, Missouri. He was born on September 4, 1949, in Fremont to Ronald and Dorothy (Swanson) Bennett.

Mike grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont Senior High School before earning his degree from Midland Lutheran College in 1972. Over the years, he also lived in Omaha and Hayward, California, before returning to Fremont, where he made his home.

A dedicated and hardworking professional, Mike was a self-employed general contractor and home builder. He also worked as a real estate agent with NP Dodge Real Estate. His strong work ethic and commitment to his community were evident throughout his career.

On August 19, 1995 Mike married Billie Bird in Fremont. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and shared experiences.

Mike was a member of Unity Church, the Fremont Contractors Association, and Elkhorn Valley Golf Club. He had a deep love for golf and was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR, especially enjoying races at Kansas Speedway.

He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Bennett of Fremont; his sons, Mike (Stacy) Bennett of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Cory (Amanda) Bennett of Pocatello, Idaho, Jesse (Tara) Bird of Bellevue, and TJ (Molly) Bird of Fremont; his daughter, Katie Bennett (Deb Spaulding) of Chandler, Arizona; his brothers, Jerry (Maxine) Bennett of Fremont, Bob (Kathy) Bennett of Holland, Massachusetts, and Jim (Jeanne) Bennett of Lafayette, Louisiana; and his sister, Laura (Bobby) Porter of Fremont and his beloved dog, Abbie Sky, along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends whose lives he touched.

Mike was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren—Jordan, Nathan, Lauren, Leif, Kian, Eva, Mason, Emerson, Easton, Ty, and Gia, and a cherished great-grandfather to Luke and Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Audrey Ritchey and his niece Angela Bennett Gunderson.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Moser Memorial Chapel. Chaplain Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026 also at Moser Memorial Chapel.
