FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted Briar Cliff University for the final home games of the regular season while honoring its 2026 senior class. The Warriors fell in both games of the doubleheader, capping a heartbreaking night.
GAME ONE: Briar Cliff 14, Midland 4
After a scoreless first inning, Aidan Smith opened the second with a double down the left-field line. Chase Bouges entered as a pinch runner for Smith, and Adam Muniz Jr. followed with an RBI single to give Midland a 1-0 lead.
Briar Cliff responded in the top of the third with a single, two doubles and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead.
The Warriors answered in the bottom of the third as Brody Boyle reached first on a wild pitch. Jimmy Martinez singled to right field to move Boyle to second. Boyle stole third, and a groundout by Anthony Martinez brought him home to tie the game at 2-2.
Briar Cliff regained control in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 5-2 lead.
The Chargers extended their lead in the seventh with a three-run home run, followed by a triple and back-to-back doubles, scoring nine runs on 10 hits to make it 14-2.
Midland fought back in the bottom half as Dax Wandler and Eimir Perez Jr. delivered back-to-back pinch-hit singles. Jax Sorensen and Jesse Chimenti entered as pinch runners. Chimenti advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored on another wild pitch. Sorensen also came home on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 14-4. Briar Cliff recorded the final out to secure the win.

GAME TWO: Briar Cliff 9, Midland 1
The Chargers took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to make it 4-0.
Midland scored its lone run as Aidan Smith led off with a single, followed by a single from Adam Muniz Jr. With two outs, Jax Sorensen doubled to bring Muniz Jr. home, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Briar Cliff added runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings, along with two more in the seventh, while holding the Warriors scoreless the rest of the way to complete the 9-1 win.

Midland (12-34, 7-19 GPAC) will wrap up the regular season and series against Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa. The Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 25.
