BSB:Warriors Drop Heartbreaker at Northwestern to Open Four-Game GPAC Series

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Midland University traveled to Orange City, Iowa, to face Northwestern College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday evening to open the four-game series. The Warriors were shut out in game one, 10–0, and dropped a heartbreaker in game two, 5–4, on a walk-off.

GAME ONE: Northwestern 10, Midland 0

The Red Raiders took an early lead in the second inning, scoring five runs.

Northwestern added another run in the third inning and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to cap the scoring. The Red Raiders held Midland scoreless as their pitcher tossed a complete game in the 10–0 shutout victory.

Statistical Standouts
Dax Wandler: 1-for-2, 2B

GAME TWO: Northwestern 5, Midland 4

Brody Boyle opened the game after being hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Anthony Martinez advanced Boyle to second, and another sacrifice by Jimmy Martinez moved him to third. Dax Wandler singled to center field to score Boyle and give Midland a 1–0 lead after one inning.

Boyle led off the third inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Anthony Martinez reached first on a dropped third strike, allowing Boyle to score and make it 2–0. Wandler then hit a two-run home run to extend the Warriors’ lead to 4–0.

Northwestern tied the game in the final inning with a three-run home run, followed by a two-out solo home run to make it 4–4. A Red Raiders double followed by a single allowed Northwestern to walk it off, handing Midland a 5–4 loss.

Midland (12–30, 7–15 GPAC) will return home to wrap up the four-game series as it hosts Northwestern College for Alumni Day on Friday, April 17. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Moller Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
