Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are challenging subjects, leaving many individuals and families without the awareness and support they need. The Blair Public Library aims to change that with its latest exhibit, “Portraits of Dementia,” which uses photography and personal stories to shed light on the realities of these conditions.
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Nebraska Chapter, the exhibit will also feature two educational programs designed to inform and engage the community:
• “Healthy Living” — Wednesday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m.
• “10 Warning Signs” — Wednesday, April 22 at 1:30 p.m.
Despite the millions of people affected nationwide, dementia remains widely misunderstood. A diagnosis can be devastating, not only for individuals but also for their families and loved ones, often leading to isolation and stigma.
The goals of the “Portraits of Dementia” exhibit are to:
• Increase public understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
• Encourage open conversations within families and the community
• Reduce stigma surrounding those living with dementia
• Share powerful personal stories that highlight the human impact of the disease
The Blair Public Library invites community members to visit the exhibit and attend these important programs to learn more and support greater awareness.
