SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Midland University hit the road Saturday for an afternoon matchup with No. 1-ranked Dordt University. The Defenders, two-time defending national champions, showcased their strength with a decisive 106-35 win over the Warriors in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.
Dordt opened the game on a 6-0 run. After Midland answered with four points to cut the deficit to 9-4, the margin quickly grew. The Defenders used a pair of scoring runs to build a 34-13 lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Dordt continued to pull away, outscoring the Warriors 27-6 while shooting 5 of 7 from 3-point range (71.4%). Midland was limited to 8 of 30 shooting from the field in the first half. Dordt led 61-19 at halftime.
The script remained the same after the intermission. Dordt’s efficient shooting allowed the lead to continue to grow. The Warriors trailed by 58 points after three quarters, and the deficit reached 71 by the final horn, 106-35.
Two Warriors reached double figures in scoring. Jenna Weber led Midland with 16 points, adding six rebounds and one assist. Addy Offutt finished with 12 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
Midland (3-23, 2-18 GPAC) will look to bounce back next week in its final home game of the season. The Warriors host College of Saint Mary (3-23, 2-18 GPAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Midland, currently on a seven-game losing streak, will look to avenge an early-season loss to the Flames, who enter the matchup on a 16-game losing streak dating back to their 66-51 win over the Warriors on Nov. 25.
