Dorothy A. Wilkening, 106, of Fremont passed away on February 10, 2026.

She spent most of her life on a farm near Arlington where she was devoted to her family and community. Dorothy was born on January 22, 1920, to Herman and Ella Christ. She grew up with her siblings, Louella Larsen, Harold Christ, Ervin Christ, and Glenn Christ, all of whom preceded her in death, and she cherished her upbringing on the farm.

On June 6, 1939, Dorothy married Alvin Wilkening, and they shared many years together until his death on May 16, 1976. On September 6, 1980, she married Henry Wilkening, and they were married until his death on March 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin and Henry, and by other dear family members who went before her. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Eloise and the late Marlin Greunke, Donna and Bob Toebben, and Kay Wittmann; her stepson and his wife, Henry Wilkening Jr. and Luanna Wilkening; and her many grandchildren: Dan and Karen Toebben, Tom and Stephanie Toebben, Dale and Joni Greunke, Jeff Greunke and Mandie, Kari and Jeff Lata, Kristin and Danny Wimsatt, Kevin and Renae Wilkening, Kristin and Mike Walker, and Shannon and Glenn Jedlicka. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with extended family who loved her dearly.

Dorothy was known for her skillful hands and caring heart. She loved to bake and sew, and she especially enjoyed quilting and making jelly to share with family and friends. Her home was a warm and welcoming place, filled with handmade quilts, the smell of something baking, and the sense that you were always welcome at her table.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontenelle. There will be public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 Friday, Feb. 13 at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church in Fontenelle.
