SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Midland University wrapped up its four-game series against Our Lady of the Lake with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader. The Warriors fell 8-2 in game one and 5-4 in game two to the Saints.

GAME ONE: Our Lady of the Lake 8, Midland 2

Brody Boyle started the Warriors off with a single to reach base, and Jimmy Martinezdoubled to right-center to bring Boyle home and give Midland an early 1-0 lead.

After a quiet second inning, Anthony Martinez opened the third with a double to right field, and Jimmy Martinez drew a walk. On a fielder’s choice, Anthony Martinez scored to push Midland’s lead to 2-0.

The Saints found the equalizer in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer to tie the game at 2-2.

Our Lady of the Lake broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, recording six hits and scoring six runs to take an 8-2 lead.

The Saints held Midland scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 8-2 win.

GAME TWO: Our Lady of the Lake 5, Midland 4

The Warriors loaded the bases to open the first inning as Jimmy Martinez and Dax Wandlerdrew walks and Diego Sanchez singled through the right side. A fielding error by the Saints allowed Martinez and Sanchez to score, giving Midland a 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back singles by the Saints, followed by a Midland fielding error, allowed Our Lady of the Lake to get on the board in the bottom of the first, cutting the lead to 2-1.

After 4 1⁄2 quiet innings from both teams, the Saints rallied in the bottom of the sixth with three hits, scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead.

Anthony Martinez pinch-hit in the top of the seventh and drew a walk, followed by a single through the right side by Adam Muniz Jr. to advance Martinez to second. Hunter Spencerpinch-hit and reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners on the corners. A single by Jimmy Martinez brought home Anthony Martinez, and Chase Bouges singled to center field. A throwing error by the Saints allowed Spencer to score, cutting the deficit to 5-4. The Saints recorded the final out to hand Midland a tough 5-4 loss.

Midland (0-4) will travel to Louisiana for a four-game weekend series, facing Louisiana Christian (10-2) at 11 a.m. and No. 7 Loyola (9-1) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 13, followed by LSU Alexandria (6-5) at 1 p.m. and Louisiana Christian at 6 p.m. on Feb. 14.
