ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Midland University traveled to Orange City, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon to face Northwestern in the first game of a three-game road trip to close the 2025 calendar year. Despite a strong start and trading baskets and the lead in the first quarter, a second-half slump combined with a consistent offensive performance from the Red Raiders proved too much for the Warriors to overcome. Midland fell to Northwestern, 105-47.

Kylie Foss opened the scoring with a jumper for Northwestern, but Jenna Weber quickly responded with a layup to tie the game at 2-2. The teams traded baskets over the next several possessions before a layup by Allison Piercy gave the Red Raiders a 7-4 lead. Midland answered with a 3-pointer from Zoey Sims to tie the game at 7-7 with eight minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

A jumper by Weber gave the Warriors their first lead at 9-7. The teams continued to trade baskets and the lead over the next two minutes. Northwestern stretched its advantage to 16-11 behind back-to-back layups from Piercy and Aubrey Metzger. Midland regained momentum when a jumper from Weber and another from Cierra Barbary cut the deficit to one with three minutes remaining in the quarter.

Jaelye Woudstra knocked down a 3-pointer to help Northwestern regain control, then added another triple to extend the lead to four, prompting a Midland timeout. After the break, both teams traded baskets, and Northwestern led 23-20 heading into the second quarter.

Northwestern opened the second quarter on a quick 3-0 run to extend its lead to 26-20. Midland stopped the run with a layup from Sims. The teams continued trading baskets before a jumper from Margo Schuiteman and a layup from Ellie Karolevitz pushed the Red Raiders’ lead into double digits midway through the quarter.

Northwestern continued to build its advantage and led 40-25 with 2:30 remaining in the first half, prompting another Midland timeout. The Red Raiders carried a 44-25 lead into the intermission.

After halftime, Weber ended Midland’s scoring drought with a free throw and a jumper. Northwestern responded with a layup from Emily Terwee. Midland continued to battle behind a three-point play from Sims, but a 5-0 run by Northwestern maintained its control and led to another Midland timeout.

Following another stretch of traded baskets and a brief offensive lull for both teams, Northwestern used a 6-0 run to regain momentum. The Red Raiders closed the third quarter on a 16-3 run and took a 79-31 lead into the final period.

Despite an offensive push from the Warriors, a jumper from Foss gave Northwestern a 90-40 lead with just under seven minutes remaining. A layup by Weber ended an 11-1 Red Raider run and cut the deficit to 101-43 with three minutes to play. Northwestern matched Midland’s scoring down the stretch to secure the 105-47 victory.

Weber led Midland with 16 points while adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Midland shot 17 of 64 from the field (26.6%), while Northwestern finished 43 of 78 (55.1%). The Red Raiders held a 59-26 rebounding advantage.
