A former associate athletic director at Midland University entered a plea of no contest to reduced charges in an alleged sexual assault case Monday in Dodge County District Court.
Steven Heimann accepted a plea deal that reduced two felony charges to misdemeanors while a third charge was dismissed.
According to a police report from October of 2023, Heimann allegedly drugged a woman with sleeping pills before allegedly sexually assaulting her while she slept. He was also accused of filming the encounter on a cell phone without her consent.
A warrant was issued for Heimann’s arrest in May of 2024. He was taken into custody a week later and was soon relieved of his duties at the university.
Heimann was originally charged with first degree sexual assault, suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance and suspicion of unlawful intrusion without consent.
As part of the plea deal, the charges were amended to third degree sexual assault and unlawful intrustion without consent. Both are Class I misdemeanors with penalties of up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine. The suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance charge was dropped.
Heimann’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 12.
