SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Midland University began its 2025-26 season against Grand View University on Saturday night in Sioux City, Iowa. The Warriors fell to the Vikings, 85-67.
Ellie Bovaird opened the scoring for Midland, and the two teams traded baskets early. Grand View then went on an 8-0 run to take a 22-10 lead, prompting a Midland timeout. A 3-pointer by Tyra Berry followed by a free throw from Jenna Weber cut the deficit to 11 at the end of the first quarter.
After a short break, the teams continued to trade baskets early in the second quarter. A steal by Allie Hakimzadeh led to a layup by Keyra Kruse to cut the lead to single digits before Grand View responded with back-to-back 3-pointers. Midland’s defense held the Vikings to just two points over a two-minute stretch late in the half, but Grand View extended its lead to 25 at the break after a pair of 3-pointers by Anna Gossling.
Following halftime, both teams scored early from the free-throw line before Grand View’s lead grew with a jumper and two more free throws. The Warriors continued to battle, as free throws by Berry and Bovaird helped cut the deficit to 74-48 at the end of the third quarter.
Berry carried her strong offensive performance into the final period, knocking down a 3-pointer followed by two free throws on consecutive possessions. Despite Midland’s push, the Vikings maintained control through free throws and rebounding, leading 80-53 with six minutes remaining. The Warriors closed strong, outscoring Grand View 14-5 to end the game.
Weber led Midland with 16 points, while Kruse paced the team with seven rebounds.
The Warriors shot 20-of-60 (33.3%) from the field, while the Vikings went 29-of-60 (48.3%). Grand View held a 40-34 edge on the boards, though Midland forced 17 turnovers.
The Warriors will have a quick turnaround as they remain in Sioux City to face St. Ambrose University on Sunday, Nov. 2, with tipoff scheduled for noon.
