SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University traveled to Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon to face Briar Cliff University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup. The Chargers shut out the Warriors, 2-0.
The Chargers got on the board first with a goal in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Warriors at halftime. Briar Cliff held a slight edge in shot attempts, 7-5, in the first 45 minutes of play.
After the intermission, the Chargers opened the second half with an early goal in the 48th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. Briar Cliff’s defense held strong the rest of the way, forcing Midland to a tough 2-0 shutout loss on the road. The Chargers outshot the Warriors 15-9 overall and 11-7 on goal.
Ava Brandt played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording nine saves on the day.
Midland (1-8-1, 0-5 GPAC) will travel to Crete, Nebraska, to take on Doane University (4-5-1, 2-1 GPAC) in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The match is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start.
