FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted the College of Saint Mary in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night, falling 2-1 after a second-half penalty kick.
The Warriors struck first as Addison Castellanos scored in the 8th minute on the first shot of the game, breaking through defenders and sending the ball into the back of the net. The Flames equalized in the 34th minute, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.
After the break, CSM capitalized on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Flames held off Midland the rest of the way to hand the Warriors a tough defeat.
CSM outshot Midland 17-7, including an 8-3 advantage on goal.
Ava Brandt played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Warriors, recording six saves.
Midland (1-7-1, 0-4 GPAC) will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to face Briar Cliff University (2-8, 0-3 GPAC) in a GPAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
