FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Morningside University on Saturday night for its 2025 Homecoming match at Heedum Field. The Warriors faced a tough 6-1 loss to the Mustangs.
The Mustangs scored early, finding the net in the 2nd minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Warriors. Morningside added another goal in the 23rd minute to extend its advantage to 2-0. The Mustangs held Midland scoreless through the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Warriors 11-2, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
After halftime, Midland had an opportunity to cut the deficit with a penalty kick following a foul in the box. Addison Castellanos converted in the 49th minute to put the Warriors on the board, making it 2-1.
However, Morningside answered quickly with goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes to push the lead to 4-1. The Mustangs added two more goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes, handing Midland a tough 6-1 defeat at home.
Morningside finished with an 18-7 advantage in total shots, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.
Midland (1-6-1, 0-3 GPAC) will host College of Saint Mary on Wednesday night in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
