Carroll K. Schurman, 90, of Nickerson died Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.

He was the surviving twin of Kermit and Clara (Mengedoht) Schurman. He lived his entire life on the family farm. He was in 4-H and also loved playing the accordion. He enjoyed many gatherings with all his cousins and other relatives. He graduated from Fremont High School.

On March 21, 1954 he married Phyllis (Knoell) in Fontanelle.

Through the years, Carroll was a Nickerson volunteer fire fighter, served on the rural fire board, and the Nickerson CO-OP Board. He also served on the Salem Fontanelle church council. He loved farming and raising livestock. In his later years it brought him much joy to watch two of his great grandsons show cattle at the Burt County Fair. For many years he and Phyllis attended many of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events to cheer them on. In his later years, Carroll took up woodworking. We loved the gifts he created for us and it brought much happiness to him to share those creations with family and friends.

About a year ago he moved to Val Haven in Valley. Many family members as well as good friends would visit him. Some even came bearing treats. But what really made his day was when that treat was an apple fritter, his favorite from a Blair bakery. One friend even stopped there for Bill to take to him. Bill would get some from a bakery in Fremont or the Blair bakery when he went to see him. It was a good way for father and son to enjoy time together. Carroll’s final week was spent at Dunklau Gardens after a short hospital stay. It meant a great deal to his family to have him much closer and spend time with him in his final days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brother, and great granddaughter Emma Cordes.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, two children Bill (Kathi) Schurman, (Kenny) Diane Cone, grandchildren: Kelly (Jeff) Cordes, Scott (Jacie) Schurman, Matt (April) Cone, Mark (Tina) Cone, great-grandchildren are: Ella Cordes, Landon Schurman, Aiden Wesemann, Zoey Schurman, Mason Cone, Andrew Cone (special friend Becca Houtby), Kayleigh Cone, Karlena Cone, Koralynn Cone, and Kamden Cone.

He knew he was loved by God as he awaited to go home to Gods eternal care. He also knew that we loved him so very much and we will always feel his love in our hearts. We will miss him deeply and we give thanks he is at peace in the loving arms of Jesus.

Visitation Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont, from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family present 5 to 7. The funeral will be 10:30 a m  Friday, September, 26, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Memorials are suggested to the church.
