FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted York University in a nonconference matchup for its home opener Wednesday night. An early goal lifted the Warriors to their first win of the season, a 1-0 shutout over the Panthers.

Midland struck early as AnneMarie Oilepo collected a deflection off the Panthers’ keeper and sent it into the back of the net, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half remained scoreless, with Midland holding a 9-1 advantage in shots, including a 7-0 edge on goal.

After halftime, the Warriors continued to control play, keeping York off the board for the final 45 minutes. Midland outshot the Panthers 11-5 in the second half and 20-6 overall.

Goalkeeper Ava Brandt earned the win, playing all 90 minutes and recording six saves.

“It was a hard-fought 1-0 win at home, and I’m proud of how this young team rose to the moment. With four solid returners setting the tone and a lot of new faces stepping up, we’re building chemistry and learning how to win together,” commented head coach Keri Heedum.

Midland (1-1-1) will travel to Salina, Kansas, to face Kansas Wesleyan in a nonconference matchup next Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 10.
