Edwin Christoffersen, 80, co-founder of Structural Component Systems, Inc. (SCS) in Fremont died Friday after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Ed and his wife Diana of Fremont founded SCS in 1987, and through his leadership as CEO created one of the leading manufacturers of wood components in the Midwest. Since inception, the company has grown its Fremont campus to more than 40 acres, and added office locations in Omaha, and Lincoln. In addition, SCS has office and warehouse locations in Grimes, Iowa.

Christoffersen was proud of what he and Diana developed, moving into their current location on Front Street in the early 1990s and the warehouse on East Dodge in 2015. SCS grew from 25 employees back in 1987 to more than 550 employees today, making the company one of Fremont’s largest employers

In 2020, SCS became employee-owned through the creation of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and in 2024, became 100% employee-owned.

Ed’s legacy remains in management at SCS with son Dave Christoffersen serving as CEO and another son, Dan, in the role of CFO.

Ed is survived by sons, Dan (Laurie) Christoffersen of Sandia Park, New Mexico and Dave (Cindy) of Omaha. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Madisen Christoffersen, Baylee Christoffersen, Thomas (Payton) Christoffersen, Cameron Christoffersen, Katelyn Christoffersen, Abbi (Teddy) Monte, and Chase Warren and one great-grandson, Donnie Monte. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Diana, in 2023.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10:30 Tuesday (August 26) at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Memorials can be directed to the Fremont Area Community Foundation: Fremont Area Alzheimer’s Fund.
