The Fremont Area Community Foundation is honored to announce the creation of the Fremont Area Special Olympics Swim Team Endowment Fund, established by longtime community members David and Cynthia Christensen.
The new endowed fund will provide lasting support for the Fremont Area Special Olympics Swim Team, whose members have won multiple medals in multiple Special Olympics state, USA Nations and World Games competitions. The Christensens, community supporters who have a deep appreciation for the opportunities Special Olympics offers, created the fund to ensure the swim team has resources to thrive for years to come.
“Our hope is that this fund will help local Special Olympics athletes continue to train, compete, and grow in confidence both in and out of the pool,” said the Christensens. “We want this team to be here—and to be strong—for generations of swimmers to come.”
The primary purpose of the endowment is to benefit the Fremont Area Special Olympics Swim Team. If the team does not need all of the annual proceeds in a given year—or if it ever ceases to exist—the fund will support other Fremont Area Special Olympics programs, ensuring the Christensens’ gift will always serve local athletes.
Because the fund is endowed, it will be invested according to the Community Foundation’s policies, with annual distributions supporting the swim team’s needs while preserving the fund’s principal for future impact.
“This gift is a powerful example of how one family’s generosity can create a ripple effect for decades,” said Melissa Diers, Executive Director of the Fremont Area Community Foundation. “By partnering with the community foundation, David and Cynthia have created a legacy that will help local athletes shine—season after season.”
